The Free Cities Conference 2026 was a major success for seasteading! Having attended many Free Cities Conferences, I have personally seen seasteading move from a fringe idea to the most promising one. A few short years ago there was a single prototype sunken by the Thai Navy: this year there are Seapods floating in Panama, ArkPads floating in the Philippines, and Atlas Yachts ready for order.
The most exciting update of all, however, was Joe Quirk announcing the first seasteading flag! Thanks to the tireless work of the seasteading institute and multiple expert lawyers, ArkPad was able to successfully flag its vessel! This opens up the oceans to legal seasteading for the first time! Don’t take my word for it though, listen to Joe’s excellent presentation announcing this critical milestone!
In addition to the legal advances, three companies are moving seasteading forward from a technical perspective (from left to right below): ArkPad, Ocean Builders, and Atlas Yachts. These three companies are making excellent progress on their respective designs and are building the future vessels of pioneering seasteaders!
Things have been quiet for a while with Atlas Island because I have been working behind the scenes to design the first Atlas Yacht (the Atlas 64 which will quickly be followed by other models). The vision behind Atlas Island, however, remains very much alive! If you have not done so already, join the Atlas Island Telegram group and together we can advance freedom by voting with our boats.
